Impact on the Region’s Development

The construction of Pego Power Station resulted in an intense demand at local level for building materials, services and labour.

The number people working on the installation and commisioning phases increased progressively up to the 3^rd year of construction, reaching a maximum of over 2000, including EDP staff, contractors and sub-contractors.

After becoming operational, the Power Plant created over 200 direct work posts in the region in addition to many others of an indirect nature linked to catering, cleaning, security, transport and conservation activities.

From an educational perspective, Pego Power Station has become an important centre in the region, with an increasing number of people visiting the power plant annually.
