National Investment and Participation


The Project represented, in direct technical costs, an investment of approximately 170 million contos [* 1 conto ± = 5,00 €], at 1988 prices, not including financial charges.

The Pego project involved a high degree of national expertise and supply:

• Electricidade de Portugal assumed total responsibility for the conception, engineering, project management and supervision of works;
  
• The main part of the plant (the steam generator, turbine-alternator and auxiliaries) and the financial investment, was distributed as follows amongst national companies:
  
  Steam generator 75%
  Turbine-alternator 58%
  Project management and coordination 80 %

Overall, national involvement in the entire project reached approximately 70%. This was only possible due to the special conditions created by the application of a "Base Agreement" for the power and associated industries.
