SINCE ITS START-UP, IN 1993, THE PEGO PROJECT HAS CONSIDERED THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF ITS PERFORMANCE IN THE SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS TO BE OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE.

Pego Power Station has its Environmental and Health and Safety Systems internationally certified according to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, respectively.

As regards to environment, Pego Power Station was the first industrial unit in Portugal to be awarded with its environmental management system certified to ISO 14001.

These management systems are part of the commitment to provide workers with a safe, healthy working environment, ensuring that all operations are performed to the highest standards of environmental protection and safety for the neighbouring community.

Moreover, Pego’s Electricity Production Center chemistry laboratory has been accredited by IPAC:

- In June 1998, the laboratory was certified by the Instituto Português de Acreditação as an accredited test laboratory (L.235 certificate) for coal analyses.

- In August 2002, the laboratory’s accreditation was extended to include ash analyses.

HEALTH
AND SAFETY

Health and safety are reflected in our performance.

HEALTH AND SAFETY ARE ESSENTIAL NOT ONLY FOR OUR COLLABORATORS, BUT ALSO FOR THE COMMUNITY.
THE PEGO PROJECT HAS IN ITS ESSENSE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MANAGING THE IMPACTS OF ITS ACTIVITIES.

Pego’s Electricity Production Center has its Health and Safety Management System certified according to the highest internationally recognized standards: OHSAS 18001: 2007.

Safety is our first concern in all activities and is permanently encouraged. For this purpose, security procedures are continuously updated according to the risks and legal requirements.

The Pego Project aims for "zero accidents", through continuous improvement of safety conditions at work.

A strong safety culture is promoted through proactive approach and transparency, which aims to prevent unsafe occurrences that endanger the health and safety of workers at site.

ENVIRONMENT

Environmental protection is a constant concern in our activity.

OUR ACTIVITY DEPENDS ON THE CONSUMPTION OF FINITE RAW MATERIALS; AS SO, IT IS OUR CONCERN TO USE AND TRANSFORM THE NATURAL RESOURCES IN A SUSTAINED MANNER, RETURNING THE RESULTANT BYPRODUCTS IN A RESPECTFUL WAY TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE COMMUNITY.

Pego’s Electricity Production Center has its Environmental Management System certified according to the highest internationally recognized standards: ISO 14001: 2004.

It is our goal to minimize the environmental impact of our activity. To do so, a strong environmental awareness is permanently promoted within the Project.

Our activity is guided by the strict compliance with all the laws, regulations, permits and other requirements established for the activities that have environmental impact.

Also, we strive for a constant search for solutions to minimize the risk of environmental incidents.

COMMUNITY

The good relationship with the community is vital to Pego Project.

SINCE 1993 PEGO PROJECT HAS BEEN BUILDING PROXIMITY BONDS WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHERE IT IS INTEGRATED, BASED ON A RELIABLE RELATIONSHIP ESTABLISHED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF OPENNESS AND TRANSPARENCY.

Recognizing that our activities have an impact on the local community, we strive to be part of the solution and to contribute to the creation of value for the community and to all our "stakeholders".

We want to share the benefits of our activity, promoting the creation of local opportunities, particularly in terms of the creation of skills, infrastructure and employment. We also support many projects of a social nature, for example the Centro Social do Pego, the CRIA, the Projeto Homem, among others.

It is our goal to ensure excellence in terms of efficient use of resources and prevent as much as possible environmental impact, since we share the environment with the local community.
